Was in a tournament last nite and when we got to the final 10 players, 1 of the players with a decent amount of chips said he was leaving for a little bit. Is there any rules on long a player can be away from the table before his chips can be declared dead. It was possible that he could be in the money without playing a hand, which would be very unfair to the other players. Any thoughts. Thanks

he posts the blinds and antes and his hand is folded each time. any player could do the same however if you are present you are able to see what cards you get. why do you think he has any advantage?

No, there are no standard rules determining how long a player can be away from the table unless it is clarified in the particular tournaments set of rules.Like Reservoirdog said, the player will still be subject to posting all blinds and antes just like the rest of the players at the table.
I don't think it is unfair because everyone is allowed to do it as well. You could also sit there and not play a hand at all if that's what you choose to do so leaving the table is no different.
